How to use “Text to Columns” in excel


 

Many times we get data in one cell like full name with address and we need to separate it in different cell. In this condition “Text to Column” is very helpful tool. It has many tools of differentiating the content. Let’s see.

Suppose, you have first name, last name, city, state and country in one cell and want to separate in different columns.

  • Open the excel sheet.
  • Select the Cells you want to separate.
  • Go to “Data”

 

  • Select “Text to Columns”

 

  • Select “delimited” & press “Next”.
  • Check “Space”
  • Press “Next” & “Finish”

Now data of 1 cell has been separated into different columns. In this method data is separated with “Space”.

If your data has some special characters like ?,<,>,+,- or any other symbol. In this condition select “Other” instead of “Space” and type the special Character, you want to differentiate with and follow the above said instructions.
