Uses of Name a Range Command
Microsoft Excel has a lots of commands to make our working easy, whether we are working in name-a-range-in-excel office or doing personal work. Name a range command in excel is one of them. In this article I will tell you about this command.
This is very crucial command and it is helpful while we are working in a excel workbook with many number of worksheets and want a summary on a single page of all worksheets. This command can be very useful.
Let’s see how this command works.
Suppose you are preparing sale data of different items in separate workbook, and want the summary on one page with automatic changes (When you make changes in the item page, the summary page updated automatically)
1. First of all leave first worksheet blank.
2. On second sheet create the data of one selling item and use sum formula on quantity and Amount.
3. Right Click on quantity total and select “name a range”, give a name of your choice (Tshirts).
4. Right Click on Amount total and select “name a range”, give a name of your choice (Tshirtstotal).
5. Now come to first worksheet, name it as “Summary”.
This formula is also beneficial because, when we have large data it becomes very time consuming to go to every time on separate sheet to get the data. We just need to press F3 and all the name range items will pop up, now it is easy to apply formulas.
How to implement name a range formula
1. Go to “Formulas” toolbar.
2. Click on “Name Manager”.
3. Select the name you want to edit or delete.
4. New name also can be added from here.
Type item and Press F3, you will see a window of all items you have named a range, select the relative name and press enter.
